Opera on the Avalon believes in education through performance. We offer a unique combination of performance opportunities, and one-on-one coaching with world renowned conductors, directors,  master teachers and established artists in the operatic field.

Opera on the Avalon’s summer festival is made up of several integrated professional training programs:

  • Mainstage Opera Program – Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi
  • Collaborative Piano
  • Internships

Opera on the Avalon is now accepting applications for it’s 2012 festival. Complete the online application to reserve your spot.

Opera on the Avalon believes that internships are a wonderful way to start a career. Opera on the Avalon provides seasonal internships in conducting, stage directing, stage management and arts administration.

In 2012 young artists will be chosen from international auditions to perform in either Puccini’s Suor Angelica or Gianni Schicchi.  Both operas will be staged, and costumed, with professional orchestral. Some roles will be double cast.

Under the direction of Steven Philcox, the collaborative pianist program is designed for talented pianists who are interested in collaboration and musical partnerships.

Pianists will receive ongoing mentoring and coaching with resident guest artists and faculty, as well as dedicated piano faculty mentorship.

Krista DeSilva, Dido

Krista-de-SilvaKrista de Silva, born and bred in Alberta, received her undergraduate degree in Kinesiology at the University of Calgary, where she currently resides.  She earned her Masters of Music at Schulich School of Music (McGill University).
